Welcome to Avanschem!
DL Amino AcidsDL Amino Acids are also known as racemic mixes since they include both L and D amino acids. Amino acids are substances with an amine group (-NH2) and a carboxyl group (-COOH) (-COOH). Except for glycine, all amino acids are stereoisomers. This means that their structures are mirror reflections of one other. It's similar to how we have left and right hands. To identify the mirror images, these are designated L and D . The amino acids that build up the proteins are all L-amino acids for some reason. Initially, it was believed that D-amino acids did not occur in nature.
